Ypres over the Christmas break

Theresa | Nov 28, 201405:20 AM     27

We're off to Ypres for five days over christmas, and I'm after some insider knowledge on places to eat in the town. I've searched the board, but there is nothing about Ypres, and very little about Belgium as a whole.

There is one place I've spotted for a special meal, which is just outside the town - it's called De Steenen Haene. Has anyone been there?

Other than that, we will be looking for food that isn't going to break the bank - i.e. low to medium prices. While I have enjoyed the seafood on the coast and their amazing chips, I'm not overly keen on traditional Belgian food - lots of it seems very stodgey or is based on heavy stews etc.

It will be over Christmas, but we will be cooking our own Christmas dinner - we are after places that will be open on the days just before and after Xmas day.

Any ideas/suggestions?
