New Yorke chowhounds looking for good, inexpensive, fun restaurant

We are coming to Chicago for a conference, and would like to go out Friday night with a big group (8+), most of whom have never been to Chicago. (My in-laws live in Evanston, but with them we always go to very expensive restaurants or the same old places). Could you guys please suggest a rather inexpensive ($15-$20 entrees more or less) and fun place where we could go, and that is in an area where we could have a drink after? We are thinking around Wicker Park, but other areas not too far from downtown would be OK. Mexican would be particularly good, given the poor state of Mexican food in NY. We LOVE Ixtapuzalco, but we don't know if that area is the best to go with the tourists.
Thanks very much!
