New York special occasion disaster -- Help please!

ninkat | Jun 17, 201906:43 PM     15

I am celebrating (I think) a big birthday in mid-August (mid-week) and had been told by Blue Hill Stone Barns that I was the first request for the date (I had started inquiring in December, and "firmed" this up in April, so I thought, with a 60 day window to confirm with a credit card (they wouldn't take one earlier). When I wrote over the weekend to arrange to give my credit card, it never occurred to me that the GM would respond Monday morning that he is terribly sorry but another event precludes mine. The irony here is that I have never even tried to have a birthday party because of the mid-summer date, and already I feel like a failure! I hope to have 12-14 guests (and a couple of these are booked to come from London/Rome to celebrate with me, so I hope to have somewhere special to take them).

I would love your input on my possibilities so far:
Momofuku Ko: I haven't heard back from them, and have never eaten at the flagship, but have eaten at most of the others, and I think this would feel very special to me. Not sure how long they take to get back; the other restaurants I looked into responded right away.

Aquavit--will be closed for renovations.

Marea--has their private room available, but I haven't ever eaten there, and would have to choose three choices out of their menu for my guests, so would love to hear if people have eaten here and favorite dishes? This seems nice, if not the wow special I was hoping for, but I could be convinced.

Both Jean-Georges and Eleven Madison Park have room in ugly, windowless private rooms (the more attractive EMP rooms are not available). Jean-Georges suggests Perry St. instead.

I could whittle down the group to 8 people which might be doable in a main dining room (I'm thinking EMP or Jean-Georges here, or other places?) I did eat with a table for 8 at EMP once, so I think this would doable...?

Are there other wonderful places I am not thinking of? Thanks for weighing in on these choices as well as other ones you may have.
