New York Deli - Pike Place Mkt - A voice of quasi-dissent

I say quasi because I thought the food was ok, but certainly not as fantastic as all the posts have claimed. We got a hot pastrami, a chicken liver, and a cabbage knish. I got a taste of the pastrami only, but it was underwhelming. It tasted like a warmed up version of a good grocery deli pastrami... The chicken liver was too chunky and underseasoned. My yardstick is the spreads I can get at russian stores, particularly in socal. Bread was good. Nice rye flavor, crunch to the crust, soft interior. This was starting to approach my #1 pastrami sandwich - Langers in LA. The knish was terrible. Worse than terrible. The filling was mush - the consistency of baby food. It made the entire puff-pastry-esque crust soggy, with the interior dough layers tasting not fully cooked. And it was overly greasy. I guess we still need to go to NY for knishes...

I'll probably be back, but I won't go out of my way for it. If I'm craving a great simply meat and bread sandwich, I'll be at Bakeman's for their turkey.
