Thanks for all the yogurt suggestions. I found a super-easy one that, while it takes forever, makes really great yogurt. Stir 3 tablespoons plain yogurt into 1 quart of milk--room temp. worked well. Put into large yogurt containers, wrap in heating pad set on medium, put in cardboard beer 12-pack box (Sierra Nevada works well!), stuff remaining space with dish towels, and leave for 16-20 hours, till custardy. I can only do one container at a time since I only have one heating pad. This yogurt was easier than making my morning cofee and tasted better than the more traditional Claudia Roden one that I also tried.
