Based largely on Russkars glowing review of the albondigas soup and barbacoa, I decided to make the trek from Newport Beach to check it out. We left about 9:30 AM to avoid the lunch crowd. This is a rough area and we had to park nearly four blocks from the restaurant and hike in. I ordered the albondigas soup and the barbacoa, easily the best Ive ever had, and Im talking about dozens of trips to Mexico and the Baja coast included. The barbacoa was butter tender and served in a rich sauce. The rice and beans were also exceptional. Mary Ann, the spousal unit, had a rich beef soup called cocida which also stellar and included lots of fresh vegetables and fork tender beef that melted in your mouth. So exceptional was our meal, we decided to duplicate it for take out dinner that evening. To our dismay, I had ordered the last albondigas, sold out for the day and only 11:20 AM. Oh well. Seems to me this gem will require further investigation. I will be there next Tuesday morning early to avoid another sell out. Thanks Russkar
for the great tip!!
