Yaxell Dragon Fusion: evolution of a great knife

drrayeye | Apr 21, 201802:24 AM     19

In 2013, Ken Onion won knife of the year for his rain collection. He soon went into production with rain and two other series. The most interesting member of his collections was the Ken Onion Fusion (see picture).

With limited marketing success, the Ken Onion kitchen knife collections went out of production, but the fusion concept re-emerged out of a partnership with Yaxell of Japan as the Yaxell Dragon Fusion (see picture)--marketed by Cutlery and More. It completely sold out earlier this year, and only recently became available again:

This blade best compares to high end carbon steel knives like the Zwilling Kramer--except the steel is harder: Rockwell 64. The American steel used in the Yaxell dragon fusion is called BD1N. If you look at the transition from Ken Onion Rain to Yaxell Dragon, you can see obvious changes for the better.

Very interesting design.
