Yankee Pier report

semmel | Jul 21, 2005 04:15 AM

I had a very nice dinner tonight there in Larkspur.

They have a front patio [with a little sandbox for the babettes, as well as crayons], an inside room, and a back patio. Lots of families. Personally, I enjoy watching young children and seeing family dynamics.

We ate on the back patio. I was panicked at first that the fried clam strips wasn't listed on the menu, but the waitress assured us they were available. It wasn't quite like sitting by the ocean, the back patio was next to a parking lot, but the clams were good and the cocktail sauce was great.

Through the month of July, all their wines [half bottles and full bottles] are half price. So we got a Sauvignon Blanc for $22 instead of $44.

The service was fantastic. Our cutie-patootie waitress was quick with a smile and recommendations. We split a tomato, arugula [aka rocket] and pecorino salad. Served already split on 2 separate plates. The hostess came out twice to check on us.

As I said the waitress gave us some recommendations, such as the Hawaiian escolar, which comes with roasted potatoes and a choice of yellow waxed beans with walnuts, broccoli, and broccoli rabe. The waitress said it would be fine to substitute fries for roasted potatoes. I love that in a restaurant!

I got the lobster roll and my companion the tuna melt. Ingredients were very good and we both would go back again.

He also had a lemon meringue pie for dessert. Very tasty.

Prices were very reasonable and the service was great.

It looked like Magnolia Drive in Larkspur had quite a few nice restaurants, including a P??? that just opened last week.

I do like to piggyback my postings to save bandwidth.

My dining partner and I talked a lot about food. He told me about a dinner he had once at Martini House? in Napa. He mentioned to the waiter that half of the entrees came out lukewarm, just to let them know.

When he got the bill, ALL the entrees had been comped.
