Working on food itinerary for visit April 11-16. A few questions...

We live in Austin, Tx and visit NYC at least once a year. Places we have enjoyed in the past include, EMP, Le Bernadine, Ippudo, Babbo's, Scarpetta, Yasuda... just to name a few. We are staying close to Battery Park, but have no problems using the subway to go to any part of the city. We like to balance high end dining with simple, less expensive dining.

We leave really early on Wednesday, arriving at JFK around 11am. Travel and check in at the hotel will take about 2 hours. I'm thinking about a lunch reservation at SHO for around 1:30 to take advantage of the lunch special and to try out the restaurant since it has gotten good Chow reviews.

This is my SO's birthday week, so we were thinking about dinner at the Monkey Bar. I have a res already. I wouldn't have thought about eating here, but I saw RGR's lovely photos & they piqued my interest. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Italian: Can't decide between Maialino and Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria. Thoughts?

How is the ramen at Momofuku Noodle Bar? Or should we try Ssam Bar instead?

Chinese: I've gone crazy reading all the reviews. I'm thinking about Hunan Manor after looking at Lau's photos. Any thoughts or other suggestions. We like food with some spice.

We were also thinking about Per Se Salon for an early dinner one night. I assume no reservations for the salon, correct? Is it crowded?

We will probably have lunch 1 day at Russ & Daughters as we can't get anything close to this in Austin. We'll also have pizza 1 day, but haven't decided which place. I've read a lot, so I think I'm OK in this area. There seems to be a wealth of good pizza in NYC & even your mediocre pizza is better than what we have in Texas in my opinion.

We are seeing plays Wed & Thursday night, but everyone has been so generous to answer where to eat in the theater district that I will just search the board for that information.

I thought about asking what else should I think about, but I am in the process of coming to grips with, "I can't ever possibly eat at all the great restaurants in NYC." Please though, let me know if there is a huge glaring hole in my plans. I am not planning every meal as I'm not sure exactly what we will be doing during the day.

Thanks for any help.
