Wonderful meal at Pearl Oyster Bar

Nor'easter | Feb 2, 2005 01:13 PM

Ok, so I have no intention of getting into the Pearl vs. Mary's debate: this was only my second time at Pearl, and I've never been to Mary's. But my brother and I had an extraordinary meal at Pearl last night.

We arrived at about 7, and although there were a few people waiting for tables at that time, the bar was mostly empty. We grabbed two seats and ordered beers and a dozen oysters. I'm not an oyster maven, so I can't tell you what type we had or what made them so good, but these were really good. We then shared a crab cake, which was delicious and, gasp, made mostly with crab, not breading. It was served with an excellent slaw of some sort. We both ordered a pan roasted cod for our main course. It was one of the best fish dishes I've had in a long time. A plump piece of cod, simply pan roasted and served on top of a medlee of vegatable, the primary one of which was brussle sprouts (the waitress told us that many people don't order the dish because of the brussle sprouts; I thought they were delicious and complimented the fish extraordinarily well).

I am sure that it will come to no surprise to many that our meal was so good, but I enjoyed it so much, I didn't want to pass on the opportunity to rave about it.
