Restaurants & Bars 2

Thought I would come out of lurkdom to offer my comments. I've been to 3 restaurants so far - Avalon, Agora & Auberge du Pommier..

Avalon - Service was outstanding!

I had the salad, the steak & the sorbet. Salad is, well salad, but it was nicely dressed. The steak frite was excellent, and of the 3 sorbets, only the roasted pineapple was noteworthy. The other 2 were a clementine (kind of watery) and a pear (not really a pear fan, so can't fairly judge it).

My dinner date had the oxtail "bouillabaisse", the crisp pork and the creme caramel. He thouroughly enjoyed everything except the creme caramel - far too eggy and the caramel was slightly bitter. We commented to the waiter, and he brought out a creme brulee for us to try - it was amazing (one of my favourite desserts, and most restaurants get it wrong! - Avalon got it right!)

Looking forward to going back to Avalon and trying their regular menu.

Agora - Sad to say,the food was mediocre, as was the service. I've been before for lunch, which was good, so I had higher expectations. Portions were tiny (even for lunch), overall flavour was on the blah side...

Auberge - Between the four of us we tried everything except the salad. The soup was very tasty, although be fore-warned that there are sliced almonds in it - I'm not a fan of nuts, especially when they're a surprise, but everyone else loved it. Both the salmon & the chicken were excellent. Both desserts were excellent, although I liked the Maple cream mousse best...Service was also very good, although not as good as Avalon...though admittedly had I not been to Avalon first I would have rated it higher..

Next on my list are Centro & Canoe...
