Wow, color me impressed by the cuisine and the high standards for service at Camden Spit & Larder in its fifth week of operation. And this was just for happy hour in the lounge when the restaurant was bustling. I joined a friend there for drinks in January. The sous vide set up in the bar was cooking orange peel for negronis. The Bees Knees (gin, local honey, lemon, grapefruit bitters) was only $9 during Winston's Hour.
We loved the finely spiced Sausage rolls with curried catsup and the Caesar salad with boquerones and lardons. Tandoori wings with mint yogurt would be better without the sweet glaze. I meant to order the Caviar & crumpets but portions turned out to be bigger than expected. The two desserts were top notch and the bargains on the menu at $8 apiece. Vanilla lemon posset with candied citrus, crunchy meringue and blood orange with crystallized ginger cookies was light and refreshing and the vegan Chocolate and sea salt tart with whipped coconut cream was as rich and decadent as can be.
Chef Oliver Ridgeway and most of the FOH staff are ex-Grange. Validation for parking in adjacent garage, good thing or I would’ve had to fork over $25 for 3 hours. This was already the hottest reservation in town.
