Best for wine pairings?

DIVASIVLIVS | Jun 11, 2011 11:13 AM

Ate a wide swath through Manhattan last weekend. Generally ordered tasting menus with wine pairings. The wines at lunch at Eleven Madison Park were superlative. Standouts included a 2005 Cote Rotie and 2004 Rioja. Both were earthy, old-world gems that perfectly complemented their lamb and mushroom dishes, respectively. Also had a briny French sauvignon blanc with a chevre salad, a match made in heaven. At Le Bernardin, The Egg was served with a trappist ale. Perfect. Del Posto gets credit for pouring an eclectic list of Italian oddities that were more than just curiosities. Had the best meal at Gordon Ramsay but the wine choices were generally safe and predictable (California pinot with duck)--not bad, but it was a missed opportunity to elevate the meal from spectacular to whatever comes after that.
How about it, CHers, who does the best wine pairings in Manhattan?
