Domaine de la Mordoree is one of my reliable standbys for the Southern Rhone, so I took notice when this email offer for T-day hit my inbox this morning.
"Perfect for Thanksgiving Day to share with family and loved ones. We have put together the perfect 6 pack of Tavel Rose which shines long after its Provencal neighbors have fallen out of fashion in cooler weather. Given AOC status 1936 with a history dating back hundreds of years prior, Tavel Rose really enters its drinking window six months after release and can continue to age for 2-6 years.
SPECIAL PRICE on 6 bottles: $183.00 - Includes tax and delivery to your home or office. That's just $30.50 per bottle for a 93 point Tavel Rosé."
I've not tasted this vintage yet, but it's well received by the critics. Tavel rosé, and especially Mordoree's can continue to improve for a few years in the cellar. The wholesale price for this wine is $24 per bottle. With Alameda County's 10.25% sales tax included at that price, the margin for shipping and profit is only 10%. Sounds like a wine deal to me.
