I finally tried Tai Thai on Bedford for lunch. I had a Som Tum salad which was good - not great, and a Pad Kee Mao (broad rice noodles) with shrimp, which was very good but a little oily. I would rate it better than SEA, Planet Thailand and Khao Sarn, not as good as Siam Orchid but definately more reasonably priced. They have lunch specials 7 days a week for $4.95.

I also tried Foodswings, the new vegan place on Grand between Havemeyer and Roebling. The menu is very fake meat heavy. I had nachos (the fake cheese was actually pretty good) and a fake chicken caesar salad, which was ok. The chicken had that bitter taste you often find with substitute meats. Next time I'll try the fake reuben or philly cheese steak. It is reasonably priced, and opened until 2 on Friday and Saturday nights which is great for the 'hood.

Supposedly next weekend the Cajun place on the corner of Havemeyer and Grand will be opening. I just got back from a weekend in New Orleans so I am looking forward to that.
