The Wild Artichoke in Yorba Linda

Funwithfood | Jun 3, 2004 01:09 PM

On a whim (and by myself) I went to The Wild Artichoke in Yorba Linda. My friend had recommended it to me, and it had also received a nice review in a local paper.

The restaurant is in a small retail center. The decor is lovely--soft green walls and crisp white tablecloths.

I ordered the Artichoke Soup, which tasted a bit acidic at first (I would have added more cream), but I enjoyed it very much and regretted when the bowl was empty!

The appetizer of The Wild Artichoke Napoleon ($7.95) was my "entree". A creamy shitake mushroom and artichoke sauce was layered between triangles of puff pastry. Although the puff pastry was chewy and some artichoke leaves a bit too tough, it had a lovely flavor and I would order it again--especially at that price.

For dessert I had the Harvey's Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae ($8.00). The brownie had a rich chocolate flavor, with the texture of a flourless chocolate cake. It came with a couple small scoops of "homemade" ice cream. It didn't "knock my socks off" as the menu stated, but it was very good.

It would not be a "destination" restaurant for me, but I would definitely go again. By NOC standards, it is a real find. I would be interested to hear from others who have had tasted the entrees.

By the way, the Server (the owner's brother) was outstanding!

{I did NOT appreciate however a waitress spending about 10 minutes on the phone (where all could hear) discussing her personal problems.}
