Best whiskey for an Irish Cream?

nooodles | Jan 17, 200610:27 PM     18

I have limited knowledge of whiskey. What I have had, ironically enough, is fairly pricey single malt scotch like Ardbeg and other peet-heavy, woody scotch from Islay (my boyfriend is into this stuff, I'm just parroting back the little I remember). I have actually never tasted the more run of the mill whiskey like Glenfiddich or Glenlivet.

What's a good whiskey to use in Irish coffee? I could very well pry a shot or two of my boyfriend's $60-100 scotch away from his lips, but I'm wondering if that peety taste would even go well with Irish coffee. Perhaps something else would be better?
