Hey Howdy All,
I'm going to be in Minneapolis next week for 3 days. I've never been to Minnesota, don't know anything about it.
Here are my questions:
I have one evening free. I'm from San Francisco so I don't need "innovative", "Fusion" or any of the Asian food types - we've got plenty of that here. I would like to eat someplace that is "quintessentially Minneapolis" (in food and/or atmosphere), something that I cannot get in SF.
I was thinking Alma because it sound like a nice, locals kind of place or Aquavit 'cause I don't know what Modern Scandanavian food is. What are your recommendations? (I'll be staying on Washington Ave near the Metrodome.)
Also, during the day, I will attending meetings at the University of Minnesota. Any recommendations for good eats (or alerts of bad eats) near campus?
Lastly, are there good kolaches to be found? I grew up in Texas where there are great kolaches and I miss them. I've heard rumors Minneapolis is another kolache savvy town. Is it true? (FYI - Here on the West Coast, they don't know what kolaches are, much less how to make them right.) Any other great local foods that I should know about?
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
