Weekend at the Beach - really long food report

Kass | Feb 25, 2004 10:45 AM

We spent this past weekend (from Thursday through Monday) at Rehoboth. We had some good food, some really good food and some okay food. Here is what we had:
Thursday night - Adriatico, I had the special which was chicken breast rolled around procsciutto, fontina and roasted red peppers. It was sliced and served on top of fettucini with a light Alfredo sauce. Companion had eggplant parmigiono and sausage. Not fine dining but very, very good. We also had a very good bottle of something red and it was so good that I can't remember what is was. The atmosphere was very comfortable and the service excellent. This is a very nice place for traditional Italian-American food of good quality.

Friday night - Red Square - this was a first time at this restaurant for us. We went specifically so my companion could treat me to my anual cavier feast. And the cavier was great. It was fresh and served properly. Companion's appetizer was foie gras pate - it was very nice in taste and texture and well served with cornichons, capers, onion and toast points. I had a duck special which was smoked duck breast (cold) with foie gras and greens. It was good but I am not sure I would have it again, I would order the foie gras and greens on their own though. Companion had chicken kiev which he said was the best ever had. No wine with dinner. Instead we had vodka samplers with the appitizers and beer (him) and champange (me) with the mains. I was delighted to see they had buffalo grass vodka which I love. We were the only people in the place - it is after all winter- but it didn't feel strange. Overall an excellent decadent experience.

Satuday night- Ram's Head- steak and fish & chips. Not the best example of either just okay. Our server was a space cadet.

Sunday Brunch - Ram's Head again. Same space cadet server but nice live jazz. I had eggs benedict with crab cake. It was a good example but not extrodinary. Companion had eggs benedict sicilian- with a sort of pestoish sauce. He said it was good. The Bloody Marys were very good.

Sunday night-Celcius- again we were the only customers. We shared a beef in marsala dish from the tapas menu for appitizer. It was very, very good especially with the excellent bread and very herby olive oil. Companion had pork osso buco which was tender and tasty. I had roast duck which was spectacular! The service was charming.
All in all I would recommend Adriatico and Celcius for very good meals and Red Square for the experience. Ram's Head is okay when it is a half block from your hotel.
