Week-End Visit to Burnaby

Bob Mac | Jun 2, 2004 10:52 AM

Heading out to Burnaby for a work related extended long week-end. Arriving late in the afternoon on the Saturday the 12th and leaving on the Tuesday.

Will be in meetings most of the days [although I will be sneaking back to my room to check the soccer results from Euro 2004] but probably will want to get out and have some good food on the Saturday nite of our arrival and Monday.

After some internet "sleuthing" and recommendations from others I had decided on The Pear Tree on Hastings as it is close to the hotel on Willingdon where we will be staying.

Unfortunately when I tried to make reservations I was advised that they will not be open during our visit.

Any comments about the Hart House or Seasons-In-The-Park?

I mention those two as I will not have a car and they are both in the Burnaby area and given the hour of our arrival I would prefer to avoid a long taxi ride on a Saturday nite.

Otherwise I expect Cru or Parkside [I enjoy small plates/bistro fare but this trip will not be interested in Bin 941 etc] might fit the bill.

I am leaning toward casual v. formal [ie. Feenie's v. Lumiere as I don't want to wear a jacket or suit but would appreciate a good wine selection.

Not interested in Asian this trip nor seafood specialty spots like C given that my non-seafood eating "better half" will be accompanying me.

What should I expect to pay for a taxi from the Willingdon area adjacent to the Trans-Canada exit to say Yaletown or the Denman/Georgia area? $25 one way? More?
