Wat Thai - New Year celebration... food?!

Mr. Taster | Dec 30, 2005 12:33 PM

Was at Wat Thai last weekend. by the way, new favorite item is the ultra delicious fish curry, sold on Saturday by the vendor next to the fried bananas... mildly sweet but savory as well, over a mild cooked cabbage, served (and probably previously steamed) in a banana leaf folded up into the shape of a little bowl.

We went inside the temple and saw that there was an unusual string "grid" suspended 2 feet or so above our heads, and at each corner there was a length of string dangling down. We asked the monks about it, and after some translation difficulty we realized that it is for the New Year celebration, December 31 from 7pm - midnight.

Unfortunately we were unable to determine if food would be served. Does anyone know?

Can you imagine how wonderful a Wat Thai night market would be? Fantastic!!
