Wash Heights--El Conde

Took Robert Sietsema's tip in the V. Voice and checked out El Conde Steak House (B'way and 175). The chicken was dry but really tasty--El Conde grills the individual pieces after the whole chicken's been roasted. El Malecon's chicken (across the street) is moister but not as flavorful, and its mojito is more garlicky while El Conde's has more citrus in it. At first I thought I was being ignored at El Conde (I get immediate attention at Malecon) but eventually they took my order and I got a couple genuine-looking smiles as I tried out my lousy Spanish skills. The prices are about the same at both places. We'll branch out lots more at E.C. When is the upper Manhattan chowhound contingent meeting again? :)
