"Most Wanted" Picnic Foods

nja | Sep 8, 2003 02:53 PM

I love reading this board, but sometimes it REALLY frustrates me. You see, so much great food gets talked about here, some of which I get to try myself and enjoy. But not all, and that's what frustrates me. I get annoyed that I can't try every delicious sounding morsel that gets mentioned! One of the reasons I'm going to the picnic is to relieve some of that frustration.

To that end, I'm putting together a list of "Most Wanted" food items for the upcoming Chowing with the Hounds picnic. The purpose is not just to make me happy (though it will), but to provide a list of suggestions for participants that might be having trouble thinking of what to bring. The list would be helpful beyond the picnic, serving as a sort of reminder list for all the delicious things we went to try (a chowhound response to SF Mag's 125 Best Foods, if you will).

The list will include pretty much any food that can be bought from a store or as take-out from a restaurant and served at a picnic. So please, answer the following question:

What one or several bay area food items have you read about that you have not yet had but most want to try?

I'll kick it off with a few of my own:
- Chicken pot pie from Liberty Cafe
- Ciao Bella's Wasabi Gelato
- Chollay curry from Little Deli
- Carnitas from Dona Tomas

I have many more, but I'll stop for now.

What's on your list?
