Yeah, a radical change from all carbs to all protein! Ha ha. Anyway, just b/c I knew that Waldy's was recently opened, i figured I'd call to make sure they would in fact be open b/c I couldn't get there til at least 3pm (work...). Glad I did, as they were closed for a private party. Bummer b/c I really felt like pizza. But, figuring I was sorta in that nabe, I went over to RUB. I only got 1/4lb of the pulled pork, b/c while a slice of pizza or so is OK around 3, lots of BBQ wouldn't sit too well, not for me, anyway.
I have no claims of knowing much about BBQ...never been to NC, GA, etc. I did, however, enjoy RUB's pulled pork. Definitely much better than Blue Smoke's, which is my only other NYC comparison. It was dry and accompanied by a little container of their sauce. I did find it a bit too sweet, yet at least it still had a little vinegary tang and spice to it. It wasn't too greasy, which made me happy. I thought the chewiness was perfect and there were even a few more burned (for lack of a better descriptor) chunks which were delightfully flavorful. I'd go back for sure. Not a big ribs fan, odd, as that's what i've had more of, in TX, CO, Fl...so, again, not a big authority here! Still, I liked it and hope to return again.
I did mention that I'd heard lots about RUB on Chowhound and the guy who took my order knew who we were. Paul Kirk was there too, but i was too shy to say anything. doh!
On another note altogether, noticed that 'wichcraft's ice cream kiosk is now open. Vanilla, caramel and i think chocolate, can't entirely remember. limited variety but equiptment to make all sorts of shakes, malts, etc...
