Feels like I have a backlog of kajillion take-out meals stretching back to the start of shelter-in-place that I've yet to post about, will try to share some as I'm able.
One of the few highlights of pandemic chowing was the compression of fine dining prices to the middle tier range for take-out. About the nicest to-go lunches I enjoyed was the sashimi bento box, $25, from Wako in July 2020. Ordering was easy through its online system and ready in 15 minutes, right on schedule. I'd been here soon after it first opened in 2014 but not since it was earned a Michelin one-star. https://www.chowhound.com/post/wako-j...
Even putting together a lunch box, there's something special about Wako's touch and composition. Colorful arrangement of pickles and seaweed, carefully prepared veggie bites on the side, perfect rice striped with purple herb dust, and the skillfully sliced and delicate white fish and sweet scallop arrayed with garnishes. A jewel box.
Take-out was discontinued once it resumed indoor dining. Wish I could repeat this again. I'm glad that Wako has survived. Even under the strain of the pandemic, the quality still held up.
