Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ in Alhambra

Chandavkl | Apr 8, 200504:34 PM

For the first time in probably umpteen years, an historic Chinese restaurant location in the San Gabriel valley has been taken over by a non-Chinese restaurant. Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ has taken over the location at 742 W. Valley Bl. in Alahambra, occupied originally by Yuan Ten and subsequently by a series of Chinese restaurants and cafes. Interestingly, Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ has a very short menu that barely exceeds a dozen items, and only a handful of these are distinctly Hawaiian (e.g. Hawaiian BBQ beef, Hawaiian BBQ short ribs, spam). I had the fillet sole burger, which I didn't identify with being a Hawaiian specialty, but it was very good, as were their seasoned french fries. They seem to be doing pretty good business, even though they have opened up fairly recently.
