I thought perhaps it would be better to start another thread for the Waffle, rather than having everyone who had a good experience there continue to post on "The Waffle - Worst Experience Ever" thread.
The service at lunch today was fine -- not the speediest I've ever seen, but comparable to most lunch places in the area such as Luna Park or Doughboys. We sat outside where it was a bit windy and people were smoking, but it wasn't too bothersome. I had hash browns with smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers -- it sounds like a side dish but it was a large rectangle of crispy hash browns topped with a good amount of smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers, plenty for lunch -- basically like getting latkes with all the trimmings.
My friend had the cornmeal waffle (what were the green bits in the waffle batter?) with a fried chicken breast, cream gravy and greens. This dish is highly caloric and probably enough for two meals, especially since the greens are larded with lardons and rather rich on their own. I think both dishes were $10 (each), which seems like a pretty good value for the generous portions.
My main complaints are that the layout of the restaurant is not that appealing and the parking is annoying, at $5 in the building's lot (plus a tip?). On weekdays, there's plenty of metered spaces in the area, but getting in and out in under an hour could be dicey. Seems like a good place for breakfast after the Hollywood farmer's market, but I imagine it would be more of a zoo then.
