Tuesday night I visited vox populi due to its location and decent looking menu.
The food proved to be surprisingly good. The baby octopi and beat app (tried and was tasty) seemed good and the entrees which the table had (beef cheeks with risotto, Ostrich, the Steak frites and salmon) were all decent.
The price point was right on though there were some sticking points to the meal which is where, after the fact, I hear Vox has lacked for a long time.
The food had good ingenuity though the salmon was a bit overcooked and the risotto side which came with the beef cheeks was not all that good(very soupy). More creativity was displayed than I had expected and the menu was well rounded.
The problems start and end with the service. Our waiter forgot about us more than once. For a tuesday night Vox was rather full and the waitstaff we were provided with were less than adequit. After being cleared of our entrees we waited 15-20 minutes for our waiter to check in and upon asking for the check we waited another 15 minutes plus for him to return with it.
This coupled with asking to have something wrapped to be taken home (the person had eaten 1/2 their entree at most) and that not being delivered left a sour note in my mouth.
We needed something in a pinch and were at the convention center so it did its job but the GM needs to A. Hire better staff or B. Train his staff.
Vox surprised me with a nice menu and acceptable food but I have no desire to return there purely due to service. After the fact I was speaking to a close friend about my experience and he told me that the service has always been an issue with Vox Populi.
Good reasonably priced food will always be foreshadowed when the service is poor.
