Visting Hound Needs Specific Help!

C. Simon | Mar 23, 2005 08:52 AM

I am still trying to decide on dinner this Friday night.

Saturday is covered. A chow tour of hot dogs and Italian beef.

Sunday is Maxwell Street Market, if it is open. Will it be? March? Easter?

Friday night I am looking for something that Chicago excels at, and which I might not be able to find elsewhere. I need WOW-inducing food. Transporting food. I am thinking Eastern European or Mexican. I am quite pleased with the Asian options I have found elsewhere, so will not be doing Asian. Also, on my one previous brief visit to Chicago, we ate at Frontera Grill, which was great, but we want somewhere new.

I am considering:

Red Apple
Zapraszaja (Zascianek?)

Irazu (coveniently, near the Map Room!)

Taqueria La Oaxaquena
Taqueria Puebla
Ixcapuzalco (or is it closed?)

Comments on these, or other suggestions, are welcome.
