Just thought I'd pass along my thoughts on my most recent two day trip up to NYC from the Washington D.C area. Started with Blue Smoke and had a delicous cheeseburger and fried bread which lived up to it's hype. Later in the day I passed Billy's Bakery and had the worst chocolate cupcake I have ever tasted. Very disappointing. After I saw "Hurly Burly" I sat outside at Bistro Du Vent in the theatre district and had a wonderful meal. Service was impeccable, the steak frites, salad and chocolate tart were all above average. For breakfast the next day I went to Balthazar but was disappointed in the bread basket and egg dish. Still a great vibe. Lunch was at 2nd Avenue deli and the pastrami on rye was killer. I know it may be sacreligous to say on this board but I think they have a better sandwich than Katz's. The highlight of my trip was the pizza I took home from Sullivan Street Bakery. I also got some bread and assorted pastries there and I have to say that place is the absolute real deal. You guys are so fortunate to have such places at your disposal. There are some good restaurants in the DC area but nowhere near the quality of NYC. Don't take it for granted.
