My visit to happy tourist!!

domesticgodess | Jul 12, 2009 03:50 PM

Once again, my trip to Montreal, was nothing short of heaven.

On Friday nite, we had reservations at Au pied du cochon at 9:30 p.m.
at the bar. I didnt know that it was an open kitchen, and would have liked to
watch them prepare the food, but I did not know you had to request this and those seats were taken.
So off we went to the end of the bar.
The restaurant was packed. Staff were buzzing about all evening and the restaurant
continued to be busy even as we were leaving.
As we walked thru the restaurant, I was looking at what was on people's plates.
HUGE RECTANGULAR plates of meat!! I later asked what was on those plates and was
told a dish with pigs feet and ?. It seemed to be a popular dish.

Staff were more than friendly. They were knowledgeable, and not rushed even though
the place was packed.

I ordered what was recommended on this board...poutine with foie gras (half order) and the cromquettes plus a beer (of course).!! My friend had a tomatoe tart and mashed potatoes.
We noticed zuchini flowers going passed us and I had to order it, seeing as its such
a seasonal dish and i didnt want to miss out.

Needless to say...I loved everything.
The poutine was a bit salty..but I managed!!

The owner was there and he was very friendly and came by to chat and offer us
a round of shots. (of course he drank with us). Then the bar staff offered us another round of shots (of course they drank with us too) I have to say..I cant ever recall that happening to me in a restaurant and it was a nice touch.

After that great experience I had to try frites alors, seeing as it was around the corner.
I ordered a quarter cup and paid full price but I didnt care. I wanted to compare it to La Banquaise. NO was very disappointing. Will not do that again.

On Saturday morning, I made my way to Jean Talon Market.
Frommagerie Hamel for unique cheese and a unique butter that I cant get in toronto, the fish store for Borgots (did not spell that right, but I had it on a previous trip and loved it), a sample for $1 of deer sausage and duck sausage,
I also purchased white turnip that I have never seen before.

On Saturday nite, I rolled to RUMI which is an afghan restaurant my friends love.
It was indeed delicious.
We shared a plate of 5 mezes, naan, daal soup that was perfect, salad with bail and pomegranate..we were happy (and full).
Of course, we had to go to Ma'am Bolduc..but they were closing at 10 pm. as we got there.
I was bummed. Didnt know that a poutine place closed that early but he said they serve lots of things and open at 7 a.m. Fair enough.

Sunday...went to Attwater Market.
Had a great coffee...chocolate croissant...bought bread and a panini for the road.

I am one happy (and full) tourist.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Can't wait to return. (after my diet, of course)
