Vintage copper finds at the flea market

Eiron | Feb 10, 202010:46 AM     14

I unexpectedly found some decent vintage copper yesterday. I’ve been looking for a bare copper mixing bowl for a while now. Every now and then I see a bowl at Marshalls/TJMaxx, but I always hesitate at buying unbranded items that are made in India or China for fear of contaminates mixed into the copper used to make them. Also, a lot of these pieces are only copper plated steel and not full thickness copper.

These vintage pieces at the flea market were also unmarked, but I know that a lot of vintage copper escaped branding even from reputable makers. There were 2 sauce pans, 2 skillets, a briki, and the mixing bowl. They all sported brass handles, all were well used, and all were decently priced. The largest sauce pan (pictured, about 6.5", $42) also came with a brass handled lid. I estimated the 2 pans’ copper thickness at approx 2mm, while the skillets looked to be about 1.5mm. The edge on the mixing bowl is rolled so I can’t measure its thickness. It’s 8"w X 4.5"h, weighs 1 lb 2 oz, and cost $20.

I bought only the mixing bowl and left the rest for someone else to find them. If you live in the Northern Colorado area (Lafayette) go get 'em! :-D
