Tonight, when heading to Lucky Pho, I passed a second location of Ba Le Vietnamese Sandwiches. Actually, I don't know if it's a second location, or just shares a name with the one on Linda Vista. I didn't try any of the food, but they had some really interesting Banh Mi varieties I've never seen before. Some of these included egg, cured pork, dry pork, and something called sour pork. I remember the server at the old Bolsaa describing Vietnamese Salami to me as "sour" so wondered if this was the same thing.
I asked the woman behind the counter, and she called over her daughter who spoke English fluently. She showed me the sour pork in the cooler to my right, and it looked exactly like the Vietnamese Salami I'd seen before. She said that was another name for it, and that they made it in-house. She said it went well with beer, and it certainly looked like it would.
I picked up a package of it, along with something wrapped in banana leaves that she described as rice stuffed with pork. It looked like a big, pyramidal tamal.
