I happened to think of an interesting barbecue book that's probably of little practical use, but enjoyable to read nonetheless. The book is Hog Heaven, by Allie Patricia Wall and Ron L. Layne. It was published in 1979 by the Sandlapper Store, Lexington, SC.
This book talks a bit about SC barbecue and how to make it, then launches into descriptions of every barbecue joint in SC, circa 1979. Great fun to just read about these great places, many of which are certainly long gone.
I was able to purchase this book new several years ago. Don't know if it's easy to find these days. Amazon lists it as a special order for $4.35, including a special charge. I don't think the Alpha Hound would mind if someone were to purchase the book through this site.
