Vegetarian, Gluten Free for this weekend

lindabethn | Apr 13, 201506:50 PM

Hi all,

My BFF and I are meeting in Chicago for the weekend. We are staying in wicker Park and are going to Book of Mormon Friday night.

She and I have always enjoyed dining out together--small plates (before they were hip), great ingredients, quality over quantity. And we love a good wine list. Over the last few years, her diet has become more limited, and now I have found myself over the last few weeks frustrated because it seems like most restaurants I've found have not had enough for her.

Her limitations: mostly vegetarian (some fish, no shellfish; may or may not eat chicken, I can't be sure these days), gluten free, allergic to pork. I live in LA, and from browsing, it seems that restaurants don't have as many veggie options as I'm used to here (i.e. some menus don't even have a non-meat main).

For reference, when we were in Chicago 2 years ago, we loved our meal at the Purple Pig (how we got in, I have no idea!) So something like that, with adequate veggie and gluten free options. Ability to make a reservation is preferable.

So I need some help--we've agreed on Cafe Babareeba. But I need a dinner before (or perhaps after if we have a late lunch?) the show Friday, and a lunch either in Wicker Park or Logan Square (shopping) or Central Loop or Mag Mile (MOCA and MOCP art museums).

Deep down, I would LOVE lunch or dinner at an Italian restaurant (which isn't LA's strength) that also has gluten free pasta available. That could be a winner.

Also, any suggestions for a post-theater dessert and/or craft cocktail program? Anywhere between BOA theater and Wicker Park is good.

Finally, any dessert places in the Wicker Park or Logan Square area?

Thanks in advance!

The Purple Pig
