Where are the vegetables in Chinatown from?

Hi. Does anybody know the origination of many of the vegetables in Manhattan's Chinatown? I'm pretty sure they're not organic. They usually are fresh, so I'm assuming it's pretty local. I believe the NY Times said in an article that they were from the farms of upstate and NJ -- however that article was from 1986. Does anybody have an idea? I could ask them, I suppose. However, there is a language barrier.
