I've been following a mostly vegan diet for about 10 years for health reasons. I love it.
I've discovered many ingredients along the way that I turn to often when I am cooking, ingredients that I seldom if ever used before. And things like peanut butter, that used to be spread on a banana or a piece of bread, are now featured players when I cook. (Spicy peanut sauce, for example.)
I'm hoping you can share some of the things you rely on a lot(besides the obvious fruits and veggies) now that you are a vegan.
Here are some of mine:
Earth Balance (great for baking and everything else)
Bragg's Liquid Aminos
Apple Cider Vinegar
Spices, lots of spices
Earth Balance Mayo
Applesauce (substitute for eggs when baking)
Liquid Smoke (I do not use this a lot but never used it before.)
Quinoa and other grains
A variety of hot sauces
Hope this helps some new vegans. Would love to hear about any other things you rely on when you are doing your vegan cooking. I'm looking forward to a shopping trip to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's soon, so I'm going to stock up. Both of them are very vegan friendly.
