I made a 2 layer vanilla cake with easy whipped cream frosting today. The cake came out of the oven ok, even though it took longer than expected. I let it cool down on the rack for at least 45 minutes. When I sliced it, both top and bottom looked fully cooked and normal.
I had to frost the cake before it was completely cooled down. The bottom layer, which came from the bottom of the pan, was still warm when I put the frosting on. Then I frosted the whole cake and put it away in the fridge.
4 hours later, we had the cake. The top layer was perfect but the bottom layer was like a paste not a cake.
What happened to my cake? Was the cake too hot when I put the frosting on?
