Help! Are there any Vancouver-style Dim Sum restaurants in the City?

epicureangirl | Oct 14, 2003 06:36 PM

I keep reading the dim-sum debates on Chowhound and must ask -- are there any dim sum restaurants in SF that are comparable to ones in Vancouver (Richmond) BC for the price?

This is really important to me because I only have 5 days (in SF this trip) to eat my way through the city and don't want to waste even one precious meal. I have dim sum every weekend, but it is very inexpensive but high quality ($2.30 /dish Canadian!). I was hoping to try Dim Sum in SF in case I was missing out on something.

Can anyone comment on this? Preferably someone who has also had Dim Sum in Vancouver? We have a huge number of Hong Kong immigrants and some of the most authentic Chinese food in North America. I get the impression through reading many of the posts that it may be very expensive to have an excellent Dim Sum meal. For a good Dim Sum I would expect to pay under $8 a person, and for a very fancy Dim Sum under $11 a person -- does that even exist?

If this info helps, I'm caucasian but am fluent in 'dim-sum' i.e. I can order in Cantonese so would be comfortable going to a restaurant where I'm the only one speaking English or where there's no carts and you order from a menu. Actually, the more Chinese people eating there the better, in my opinion.

Thanks, everyone!
