We have to be in Vancouver for one child when it is our daughter's 12th birthday. In order to compensate for the lack of a birthday party at home, we'd like to take her to a restaurant she'd enjoy. We're staying downtown but will have a car. She's allergic to shellfish and doesn't like really spicy food (although we regularly eat Thai and Indian but she picks her way through it). She likes Earl's, but I don't want a chain we can go to at home (Calgary). I'm hoping for something with an atmosphere pleasing for a 12 year old. It's been a few years since we've been to Vancouver. Is there anything on Granville Island or downtown with an ocean view which is special but not too formal? I've had great food at the Five Sails but my daughter would not like that kind of setting.
