Is an upscale lunch as good as an upscale dinner?

In general I love places like Gramercy Tavern, Jean-Georges, Chanterelle, etc. but lately have not been able to always do dinner at such a place.

In general, do you find the quality of the food at the top restaurants as good for lunch as it is for dinner?

I know service tends to vary, just b/c the "A" team works at night but it is the food I am after.

Also, this is not a question about restaurant week, which as its own caveats.
