I thought I would give an update on Vini & Olii (sp??) in Clinton Hill since this place is often subject to a lot of discussion and varying opinions. My husband and I went there tonight and had an excellent meal. We hadn't been in a while and I was pleased to see some menu additions and some other very positive changes.
We had 2 app, 2 entrees, 2 dessets, 2 coffees and a bottle of red wine for $104 (without tip). A couple of noticible changes. The service is more efficient and smoother (and very friendly -we arrived without a reservation and they were crowded but accomodated us within 5 minutes), the portions a bit larger, salt and fresh pepper shakers on the table and they now take credit cards.
I had thin slices of bison tongue with gremolata sauce which was wonderful and my husband had a generous and lovely beet salad with peices of pear, salad greens and a thin large wafer of truffled pecorino cheese covering the salad.
My husband followed this up with a great osso buco served with soft, white polenta and I had a fabulous fresh pasta studded with fresh chives (like a wide parpadella) served with a ricotta sauce and wonderfully falvorful peices of pancetta. The wine was a very nice bottle of game.
We both had the same dessert - a rice torte with raisins - very nice and light and not too sweet and coffees
We noticed they are now serving a Sunday jazz lunch from noon til late afternoon
We really enjoyed the meal- I think it is a very good value for the quality which if served in manhattan would have been almost twice as much.
