Need help: Unusual Chelsea restaurant memory

Steve | Jul 30, 2004 04:41 PM

My cousin took me to this highly unusual 'theme' restaurant in the early 80's: From the exterior, there was no mention of a restaurant. Looked more like a run down second hand store, maybe with a glass case/counter (duct-taped cracks, of course)and an armoir up against the back wall. You enter through the armoir (!) into a dark bar area, pass through the kitchen, through a door to exit the building, and in the space between buildings was a glass enclosed restaurant with pretty christmas tree lights, tablecloths, and ultimately (IIRC) fairly boring Italian-American food.

Does anyone out there remember this place? My memory tells me it was in Chelsea (is that around W.23rd St?) and the name was something like the Chelsea Inn....
