Unpasturized cheeses, once and for all!

What is the story with unpasturized cheeses in the US? I have heard a variety of things: only pasturized can be imported, all cheese sold in the US (no matter its country of origin) must be pasturized, etc., BUT I am sure that I've seen unpasturized around town at the better cheese departments (Dean and DeLuca, Murray's, etc), haven't I? Now it's become a concern because I'm pregnant and have been told to stay away from unpasturized cheese...so what's the deal?
