Things started off well enough, we ordered a couple of waters, coffees, an onion soup and a charcuterie plate for a light early lunch. Our waitress brought out the coffees right away, which were good. Then came out the onion soup.
From first glance, I didn't think it looked very good. There was a tiny crostini with some cheese melted over it, but the soup itself was not very hot. When I dug in with my spoon, I saw very uneven pieces of onion, some thinly sliced and actually cooked through, other pieces were enormous and still crunchy. The broth itself was not very flavorful and grainy to boot. Quite simply it was the absolute worst version of French Onion Soup I have ever had in my life. Which is saying a lot because I've had versions of it everywhere, including France, because if it is done right it is quite a magical thing.
Anyway, I wasn't going to say anything about it, but the longer I sat there looking at the soup, the more I became unhappy with how poorly it was executed. So, when my SO asked the waitress for our water, that she forgot, I just had to tell her that I really did not want the soup. I told her my complaints and she just stood there glaring at me. I had to actually tell her to take the soup away from the table before she did and she immediately came back with our bill for the two coffees.
When I asked whether we can be expecting our Charcuterie plate, she again glared at me telling me that I never ordered that from her. When I insisted that I did, she went to the kitchen, came back and told me that the kitchen refused to make it for me because I sent back the soup.
I was utterly appalled by this and left furious. It took me quite some time to cool off, but I think I'm still somewhat shocked by this unbelievable experience. Needless to say I will never return.
