Ulysses review -- actual decent food at the Grove

patty | Aug 1, 2003 05:20 PM

Given the rather dubious reports on virtually every other restaurant at the Grove, I just thought I'd share that we had a very nice lunch today at Ulysses, the new Greek restaurant. Technically, it's more in Farmer's Market than the Grove because they only validate for Farmer's Market, but it faces out on the trolley track so I'd call that the Grove. The service was super-attentive and friendly, they would have been happy to pour me a gallon of ice tea. The dolmades (grape leaves) came with a creamy sauce I haven't seen before and were very tasty. My friend enjoyed the olive breadsticks and we both had the lamb gyro sandwiches. Not cheap at $10, but it's not a stand, it's a tablecloth restaurant with a nice shaded patio. The gyro was very meaty and spicy with a pillowy pita bread. They have pretty much the typical stuff, moussaka, mezes, salads, etc. I can't say if their more ambitious items are successful, but if you want a more formal option at the Grove, it seems a lot better than the other choices.
