Cocktails & Spirits 3

Ultimate Margarita Blind Tasting Quest Phase 6.

TombstoneShadow | Aug 21, 201310:20 PM

All drinks approx. 1.5 - 1 teq to TS, with 1 part lime j. (.5 key, .5 sweet), and slightly less than 1 part agave

Only diff are the 3 TS…. Gran Gala, DeK O3, and a 50-50 mix DeK O3 & Citronge. Tequila is Patron Silver, Agave is Sauza Organic.

Actual blind tasting notes follow:

1: Bright, sweet, lipsmacking, delicious, complex…. Could probably support another .5 part tequila easily. Mild lingering/ evolving back burn…

2: Significantly on the tart side of 1. If 1 tends to sweet lime notes, this tends to emphasize the medium tart notes. Both 1 and 2 very well-rounded and complex…

3: More singular. Nothing not to like here, just doesn't open up and evolve quite as widely as 1 and 2…

WILL now re-test w/ a little over .5 part more tequila in each…

Drink 1: Definitely supports the extra tequila. This is a place where a less soft tequila might be real nice… to put a sharper edge on the basic cocktail. Great lingering finish to this mix.

Drink 2: Delicious. Very difficult to choose between 1 and 2. These are near-perfect basic recipes. I would experiment with different types tequila. A more basic, less smoothed tequila, or even a mezcal might be a real nice variation to both 1 and 2…

Drink 3: Definitely improves with the extra tequila. Still more tight and singular, but very delicious. Tart impact is a little higher than 1 or 2, the pronounced lime / orange flavors a little less.

Overall I think 1 might be the better fundamental mixture. With special mention for very strong delicious tart blast from #3. If I can combine the tart limey blast of 3 with the overall complexity of 1, and a bolder tequila... I'd be about dialed-in….

Search for the tequila grail will continue…

NOW, to find out what I've been drinking:

1. DeKuyper O3
2. Gran Gala
3. 50-50 DeK O3 and Citronge….

I really like what citronge brought to the table here… even though it's flavor is not as well-developed as either GG or DeKO3, it has such a powerful punch…. I'm thinking maybe 2/3 DeKO3 and 1/3 Citronge might be an ideal middle ground…. Let's try combining the remainder of 1 and 3… which would be around a 75-25 mix…

Oh wow… of course at this point I know what I'm drinking but this is 100% on the right road…. approaching classic margarita nirvana...
