Ukraina on Avenue J - delicious prepared foods

I want to recommend this tiny Russian deli at 1214 Avenue J, they sell a variety of foods they prepare in their kitchen in the back of the store. I haven't tried everything (the selection varies from day to day) but I've enjoyed their roast pork (lots of garlic!), stuffed peppers (stuffed with a chicken/rice mixture), blintzes (cheese, apple and sometimes cherry) - basically everything I've tried has been delicious. Warning - if you don't like buttery and rich fried foods this may not be your cup of tea...

They also have a great selection of sausages including several kinds of liverwurst (the big fat liverwurst sausage is the best) and lots and lots of candies, chocolates, pastries, etc (they don't make the sausages themselves, but I believe some of them are from local producers and certainly a welcome change from Boars Head etc.

I've tried a number of the Russian stores in Midwood, including the big place on Kings Highway (sorry I forget the name) Ukraina just blows them all away, in my opinion. None of their signs/prices are in english, but the ladies behind the counter are always friendly and will probably let you try a sample - check it out, if you discover any other wonderful delicacies or know of any other stores in the area please post more info!
