UES- is GOOD food at decent prices possible?

Hi all,
I just moved to 82nd/3rd Ave and I dislike the majority of the food in the 'hood. It seems to be a wasteland of mediocre food at expensive prices. I'm a big fan more downtown-type restaurants, but since i live there now i need to find some spots.

I end up ordering from Saigon Grill or The Ethiopian Restaurant every day, but that gets tiring! I've also tried Cafe Grazie (ok), Good Health, Jasmine, Uskudar, Maryums, etc, & they were decent but not great.

Any recommendations? Decent Thai, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Turkish, Italian, etc? I'd also like to stay below $15 for entrees, or even below $10 if possible.

Thanks, fellow chowhounds!
