Ubiquitous pimiento cheese...Athens, Georgia

I have been reading here for quite sometime, but this is my first post, apologies if it's a bit of a rant... I am in Athens, GA and the southern classic in the title seems to be on every locally owned Americana restaurant's menu in some form or fashion. I really enjoy pimiento cheese, and have also enjoyed those that I've eaten out, but am kind of over "pimiento cheese as sandwich topping" on anything from pork belly to fried chicken biscuits.

Also deviled eggs, B&b pickles, and pecans, everyone in town has them.
The deviled eggs and pickles rarely insinuate themselves as egregiously as the pimiento cheese. I know many friends in ATL who confirm the spread of pimiento cheese over the past several years on menus. Is it just our bit of Georgia, or is this a pan-South food trend?
